Specimen weight: 334 gram slice: (245mm x 130mm x 3mm)
The Imilac meteorite was
found in 1822 in the Atacama Desert, in northern Chile. Many
large masses were found by prospectors, and thousands of small
fragments have been found since. Imilac is a beautiful stable
pallasite, with nice golden-to-green olivine crystals.
I made an expedition to the
Imilac strewnfield in April of 1999. I found 1.5 kilos of small
specimens myself. Meteorite hunters have successfully searched
the area in recent years using large machines to scour the desert.
