Mont Dieu
Iron,
Fine octahedrite (IIE).
This
beautiful meteorite was found by artifact hunters in the Ardennes
forest, France, in 1994. While searching for WWII artifacts, a large
meteorite was found, and since then, many more pieces have been dug up.
Mont Dieu is a very rare type IIE iron, with high sulfide content seen
in the wormy triolites, and a very fine micro-etch pattern. It contains
abundant triolite, schreibersite, metallic copper, and rare chromite
inclusions. Most of this meteorite is highly weathered, so nice solid
pieces are rare. I bought a large slice and had these pieces perfectly
cut and prepared. |
