AlbinThis beautiful meteorite was found in 1915 in Laramie County, Wyoming. A single mass weighing 37.6 kilograms was found on a ranch. Albin is a Pallasite, and not much is available these days. It has nice green to yellow crystals and is quite stable. All of these pieces are cut from the original Albin mass found in 1915. Nininger bought the mass weighing 37 kilos, and in his collection book from 1950 he lists the mass as weighing 34,201 grams and it is Nininger Collection #314.1. This mass was flight oriented, having traces of black fusion crust and flow lines on some of the rollover edges. I recently completed a large exchange with ASU in Tempe which owns most of the Nininger Collection including the mass listed here. However, it had by this time been cut down to almost 9 kilograms and the slices distributed to other institutions worldwide. I persuaded them to cut the mass and clean it up (it was poorly cut in the past) and I got some slices from this mass. This is a beautiful meteorite, and all of these slices are from the original mass, not the later mass that was found. All pieces include ASU labels proving provenance. All slices are polished to mirror finish on one side and etched on the other side and all have some translucent crystals.

In this photo you can see a close-up of the amazing etch and crystals in Albin. I can not take photos of the large slices and show this kind of detail, but all have etched identical to this.
